4 Mascara Mistakes You’re Probably Making

4 Mascara Mistakes You’re Probably Making

January 24, 2018

Mascara is one of those products that is a must-have in any makeup collection. There’s no doubt that this simple, little product can add that well needed drama to the eyes and amplify just about any look. The application process is seemingly easy too. No, really. All you have to do is pop it on your lashes and you’re headed out the door in a few seconds. While applying mascara is a walk in the park compared to chiseling those cheekbones and getting your highlight just right, there are a list of common mistakes we all make throughout the application process. Today we’re sharing 4 mascara mistakes you’re probably making that are super easy to correct.

You’re Pumping The Wand

We know it’s super tempting to pump the wand in and out in an attempt to pick up more product. Unfortunately this only allows air to enter the tube, causing the product to dry out faster than normal. Dry mascara equals clumpy lashes, and a product that will no longer serve its purpose. Instead, twist the wand in circular motions as you pull it out the tube.

You’re Piling On Too Much

You may think applying 10 coats will give you voluminous lashes, but the more coats you add, the more you risk lashes that are clumped together, leading to the spidery look. Two to three is generally sufficient, but if you’re still not getting the look you desire after this, you may need to switch to a different formula. With our Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara and its tubing formula, just one sweep of the wand coats every lash giving you volume and length, and lashes that won’t smudge or budge.

You’re Using An Old Product

We talked about makeup expiration dates in our guide here. So, if you’ve been holding on to that mascara for way more than 3 months, then it’s time to kiss it goodbye. Because the wand of the mascara is constantly coming in contact with your lashes, bacteria builds up overtime both on the wand and in the tube. Using old mascara can lead to eye infections, and you want to prevent this risk as much as possible.

You’re Not Coating The Entire Lash

Are you just sweeping on each coat in an upward motion? Well, you’re doing it wrong. They key is to start at the base of your lashes, wiggle the wand from side to side (in little Z’ shapes) while you move upwards. You’ll benefit from great length and volume since your lashes will be properly coated with the formula.

Moms know best, especially when it comes to beauty and makeup. After all, some of our beauty routines today are inspired by watching mom get glam in the mirror, as well as invaluable advice she drilled in our minds as we got older.
